Types of Roulette

March 5, 2017

Roulette is a diminutive name of the word “wheel” in French. As well as the first model of roulette was created in France in 18th century, the game in its present form was first played in Paris in 1796. It is described in a French novel by Jaques Lablee – La Roulette, ou le Jour about a roulette wheel in the Palais Royal in Paris. But in spite of these facts, the French variant of Roulette less popular than the other two. The well-known and wide spread types of Roulette are American and European variants.

Actually, the only and main difference between them is the quantity of zeros and according to it the percent of house edge.

Since European Roulette is the game with 0 zero and lower house edge it’s considered as the most popular among the all types of Roulette at all. Regardless the wheels in American and European roulettes are the same, the sequence of the numbers on them is different. For the European roulette it is the following: 1-20-14-31-9-22-18-29-7-28-12-35-3-26-0-32-15-19-4-21-2-25-17-34-6-27-13-36-11-30-8-23-10-5-24-16-33. The house edge due to one zero is about 2,7 %.

While European Roulette is the most famous and popular, the American one also has its followers. They know that the sequence of the numbers in it differs from the European, because it has both 0 and 00, and that’s why the numbers on the wheel are situated in pairs, such as 1-00-27-10-25-29-12-8-19-31-18-6-21-33-16-4-23-35-14-2-0-28-9-26-30-11-7-20-32-17-5-22-34-15-3-24-36-13. But house edge, certainly, becomes higher up to the 5, 3%. For that reason American Roulette is more profitable for casino than for players, but at the same time it has its own advantages. For example, it offers in addition a bet on five numbers. One must admit, that there were forms of Early American roulette wheels, which had numbers from 1 to 28, and also slots, zero, double zero and an American Eagle – the sign of American Liberty.

Whether a French variant exists or it’s just an original version of European roulette is a question of ages. But anyway, French Roulette has its peculiar rules and offers and its players, not so many as previous two have, but thanks to them it is played.

At the same time among the online roulette games it is easy to see much more variations of this game. For example, Multiball roulette where you may play with more than one roulette ball, but in this case you have to divide your bets on the number of the balls. So your odds to win increase while your winning is decreasing.

Or a No Zero roulette the principle of which is clear from its name. The Roulette wheel has no zeros on it, that’s why your chances to win are raising extremely while the house advantage is annulated.

The Mini-roulette, the other representative of modern online roulette types, is also based on the European roulette rules, but has only 12 slots on its wheel. Of course the payouts in this roulette and in standard one are different.

Anyway, whatever type of roulette you choose, remember that this is a game of chance and there is no point to buy special roulette systems to cheat the casino. Indeed, it is advised to play European roulette, unless you want to lose all your money. Moreover, you may try to play European online roulette and then to play American roulette online. But regardless what kind you choose set betting limits for any roulette game you play and don’t overcome them in any case. Don’t make Straight-up bets all the time. And finally, relax and enjoy your playing independently on the results of the game.

Roulette Tournaments Versus Ordinary Roulette Games

January 14, 2017

The concept of roulette tournaments tends to be very fascinating to people who hear about it for the very first time. These people subsequently express an interest in knowing more about these tournaments, how the tournaments work and how the tournaments differ from ordinary roulette games. But it is not just folks hearing about the roulette tournament concept for the very first time who pose questions about the same. We also have some pro roulette players, who have been playing the game (as in, ordinary roulette games) for long, and who are now considering venturing into tournaments. These too, tend to express questions on how the tournaments work, and how they compare to ordinary roulette games.

It turns out that roulette tournaments and ordinary roulette games share a number of similarities. There are also several observable differences, between what happens in the tournaments, and what happens in ordinary roulette games.

Similarities between roulette tournaments and ordinary roulette games

The biggest similarity between what happens in a roulette tournament and what happens in an traditional roulette game is in terms of the actual playing: where you come to realize that the same basic principles apply. In other words, the fundamental rules of roulette don’t change just because you are playing it in a tournament setting. What is considered a win will remain to be a win: whether or not you are playing in a roulette tournament. What is considered outrageous in an ordinary roulette game will remain outrageous, even when you start playing in the tournament setting.

Whether or not we are looking at a roulette tournament or an ordinary roulette game, everything still takes place behind that colorful rotating wheel.
Whether it is played in the traditional format or in the tournament format, roulette mainly remains a game of chance and a game of skill to a small extent; but one where chance (luck) seems to play the biggest part in the determination of winners.

Whether roulette is played in the ordinary format or in the tournament format, the objective is always to win money. Of course, as we will see shortly (when we turn to the differences), the nature of the winnings and rivals differs. But the basic objective of winning cash remains.

Other important elements, such as the concept of minimum bets and maximum bets remain – whether roulette is played the traditional way, or in the tournament format.

Differences between roulette tournaments and ordinary roulette games

The biggest difference between traditional roulette and roulette as it is played in tournaments is with respect to the playing parties. In ordinary circumstances, we have individuals playing roulette against the house (the casino offering the game). If you win, you are said to have won against the ‘house.’ And if you lose, you are said to have lost to the ‘house.’ But in roulette tournaments, the players play against each other. You thus win or lose against your tournament rivals, not the house. The house facilitating the tournament usually takes some sort of commission, but otherwise, the people partaking of the tournaments play against one another.

Whereas ordinary roulette games are available any time one ventures into the casino (as they entail playing against the house), roulette tournaments are normally meticulously preplanned and publicized events. That is because the tournaments involve people coming together, and playing roulette against each other.
